Sat 8-Sep-2001 Woke up, did the usual thing. The weather was rainy in the morning, so we decided to take a day trip to a small town called Kutnà Hora. Apparently at one time, Kutnà Hora was the most important town in Central Bohemia; it w'as a huge silver mining city in the 15th century. But our main attraction was in a suburb called Sedlec; specifically the Ossuary Chapel of All Saints. Apparently, an a 12th century monk made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and brought back some soil, and spread it on the ground. Because of this, many of the elites of the time wanted to be buried there. The cemetery quickly used up all of it's capacity. Enter the black death, and the bodies quickly piled up in stacks in the abbey floor. Then a few centuries later, a "artist" takes all of the decomposed skeletons and decorates the abbey by creating chandeliers, pillars, and a coat of arms of the local lord - all with human bones. Afterwards, we checked a nearby cathedral. Then we tried to go to downtown Kutnà Hora to get some food, but we underestimated the distance involved so we ended up just taking a long walk. We then split up when we got back to Prague; Corey and I got food at a place called the "Mona Lisa" while the others went to an internet cafe. We met up at another restaurant called "U Prince". Since I already ate, I just got desert. We also got to watch live jazz. Afterwards, I went to an internet cafe where I email-ed home, and then it was back to the hostel.
