Theobald, the first Metzger there is any information about, was a ceramic chemist in Germany.
He went to France to study ceramics, met and married a French girl named Margarita (or Margaretha).
They came to Amarica, settling in Galena, Illinois where he ran a bakery shop and where they raised
a family of six children: August, William Sidney, Louis, Theobald Jr. ("Theo Garry", pictured at right),
Carrie, and Ernest Franklin.
There was no information about August. William Sidney was a lawyer who wrote horoscopes as a hobby.
He married and had two children; Benjamin and Carrie (named after her aunt).
Carrie, a nurse, married a man whose last name was Hartzel, and they had a daughter Gertrude (also a nurse)
who married Henry Grimm, editor of the Galena Gazette at that time. Their daughter, Alice Grimm, never married
and possibly still lives in Galena. Henry Grimm owned a launch, and the Metzgers and Grimms had many pleasant
trips down the Mississippi on Sundays.
